District Industries Center, Salem has been rendering valuable assistance and guidance to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and also trying to sort out their problems with persistent follow up with various organizations and institutions through District Level Bankers meeting, Single Window committee meeting, Sick unit rehabilitation meeting and Grievance meeting with industrial E.B. consumers etc.
The functionaries of the DIC, Salem comprises of a General Manager and to assist him 3 functional Managers, One Assistant Director(Industrial Cooperatives), 3 Assistant/Junior Engineers, Survey & Statical Inspector and Investigator to do the  field work and other ministerial staff  to do the office work. 

The following are the activities of the District Industries Centre, Salem.

Identification of potential entrepreneurs/Artisans

  Identification of viable & feasible enterprises

  Conducting Motivation camps at colleges and panchayat union offices

  Registration of Enterprises under MSMED Act, 2006.

  Preparation of Project Reports and Technical guidance

  Implementation of different Incentive schemes  with the objective of promoting rural economy, rural employment and balanced industrial development

  Identification/Rehabilitation of Sick Units.

  Identification/ Selection/ Recommendation of proposals, Conducting Task Force Committee meetings and followup work up to the establishment of enterprises and thereafter  under PMEGP.

  Acting as Information centre to provide necessary information to the entrepreneurs and Industrialists such as Important addresses of agencies assisting the Industries, Prevailing policies and incentives of Central and State Govt., Procedures and guidelines to obtain power connection, loan schemes and prior clearances

  Issue of Udyog Aadhar Memorandum to the functioning Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to enable them to have the power connection under Industrial tariff, to obtain loan for the working capital requirement and to obtain benefits and inentives offered by the Central and State Governments.

  Nodal agency for implementation of Single Window Scheme to assist the entrepreneur to obtain clearances, plan approval from various departments and to obtain licenses from the local body.

  Conducting the entrepreneurship training programmes for the unemployed youth and self help group & technically qualified women in collaboration with MSME DI, NABARD, COIR BOARD & EDI etc. 

  Export Guidance Cell – providing information about the procedures of getting IE code and RCMC etc, addresses and websites of Export promotion councils and other export promotion agencies, Export incentive schemes , export potentials and opportunities available etc.

  Redressing the grievances of entrepreneurs and industrialists through the Industrial power consumers Grievance Meetings conducted by the TNEB and Single Window Meetings

  Providing Technical Reports to the banks on request from the banks for availing the term loan and working capital  by the Industrialists.

  Conducting work study to assess the production capacity as and when required by the NSIC, Divisional Excise Officer and other Govt agencies. 

  Facilitation for recovery of delayed payment to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

  Assisting the various agencies involving themselves in conducting the survey and diagnostic study in the District and preparation of PLP and ACP of the District.

  Promoting the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through establishment  of Industrial Co-operative Societies in various trades and monitoring the same continuously with an aim to offer continuous and gainful employment to artisans farmers and SSI unit holders etc.

  Recovery of DIC sponsored scheme loan through Joint Recovery drive with bank managers.

  Conducting the Seminars, Workshops etc for the betterment of Industrialists

  Registration of Cottage and Handicrafts Industries to assist them to avail financial assistance and E.B. tariff concession

  Identifying and helping the eligible Industrialists to avail the incentives under TUF, Modernisation, Credit guarantee fund scheme, Back End interest subsidy and Central subsidy schemes.
